City of Riverside

With a population of over 300,000, Riverside is the metropolitan center of the Inland Empire.  The foundation of the West Coast's Citrus industry began in Riverside in the 1870's, with two Brazilian navel orange trees.  A citrus based 'gold rush' ensued, resulting in Riverside becoming an incredibly wealthy city per capita by the late 1800's.  A small guest hotel built in the Mission Revival style soon followed, and would later grow to become the Mission Inn, favored by presidents, royalty and movie stars for decades to come.  Named an "All American City" in 1998, Riverside served an integral role in the agricultural development of California, and its rich history is evident throughout the burgeoning downtown, as well as the rest of the city.
